New trends in leadership for 2008
February 6, 2008
Welcome to The Advantage of Leadership where we will be exploring new styles and trends in leadership in the 21st century. Congrats! You're reading the first post!!
Why this blog? Well, I’ve read a lot of the leadership material out there, and most (not all) of it seems to be the same stuff re-hashed. Not much that really speaks to the current trends and issues we face daily.
As leaders, we’re facing a lot of new challenges that will require new thinking and styles in leadership as we move further into the 21st century. I’d like to delve into some of these areas and get a lot of thoughts from those of you who are out there in the leadership trenches.
What kinds of new issues and challenges? Here are a few that I regularly run into in my consulting practice:
- Leading virtual teams
- Global outsourcing
- Complex Projects
- Cultural issues created by global outsourcing
- Small group leadership
- Issues created by our rapidly changing technology
- Leading change
- Leading teams with strong cross-functional skill sets
- Leading high-performance work teams
- Balancing organizational structure, culture and strategy
- Leading in crisis
- Leadership in strategic planning
- “Servant leadership”
- Trends and growth in “Thought Leadership”
- Creating trust in a virtual and outsourced world
- Leadership traits necessarily to deal with these challenges
I’d like to use this blog as a forum to get some of these discussions going. What works? What does not work? What needs to change in our businesses and companies?
What I’d really like to do, is make sure this blog is addressing issues that are most important to the readers; so, I really need some input from you.
- Please feel free to post comments about what you’re reading and what ever is on your mind about trends in leadership.
- Navigate over to the “Ask Stan” page. You’ll find way to have your questions entered into a database of reader questions and inputs. I’ll use those inputs to develop articles and other programs tailored to your needsd.
- Subscribe to the blog by RSS or feed readers or register for e-mail updates, which will insure you are always aware or the most current postings.
- Navigate over the “Buy the book” page and check out new release of “The Advantage of Leadership” hard cover book. I’ve recently co-authored this with several other leadership experts, including Pat Williams who is Senior Vice President of the NBA’s Orlando Magic and one of America's best-known sports executives and most sought after motivational speakers.
